Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, during a recent interview, said that he has been discovered with a condition called Vestibular Hypofunction. “Recently, I just closed down. I didn’t even know what had happened to me. I had this thing called vestibular hypofunction, above all, your stability goes off,” Actor Varun Dhawan said in an interview at India Today Mumbai Conclave 2022. Vestibular Hypofunction: What it Means?
Vestibular hypofunction is an illness that infects the balance of an individual. Generally, it happens when the inner part of the ear does not work properly as it is also a part of your balance system. The vestibular system (in your inner ear) of the person suffering from this situation does not work properly and sends an error message to the brain. The patient experiences dizziness. According to ENT Consultant at the Fortis Hospital, Dr. Vidit Tripathi, “there is variance created in the balance organs, which can be primarily due to a viral infection or sometimes there could be other reasons. This can be short-term and can sometimes be preserved but mostly one can recover fully in a few weeks. It is not a serious state and one can get better with the right treatment and exercise.”

Common indications include dizziness, vertigo, and poor balance. Some people may also experience difficulty walking in busy places. Further symptoms depend on the source of the disease. “Patients may have current symptoms like nausea, inability to maintain posture, difficulty in walking at darker places, and also the unusual motion of the eyes,” Dr. Dhiraj Gurvinder Singh, Senior ENT & Cochlear Implant Surgeon at Shalby Multispecialty Hospitals, Mohali explained some more symptoms of this condition.
