The result of the assembly elections held in 5 states has declared yesterday. The elections in 2022 term as a game-changer and many predicted that Bhartiya Janta Party can face some big challenges in elections but all the assumptions fell flat as BJP has won elections in 4 states. These assembly election results have surprised many. Uttar Pradesh where the battle for power has always been tough and many heavyweights were at loggerheads has created history by allotting another full term to the sitting CM Yogi Adityanath.
This is for the first time in the past 30 years that a sitting CM or ruling party has been re-elected. Apart from UP, BJP has managed to secure seats in Goa, Manipur, and Uttrakhand. The Punjab assembly elections were won by Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party with a landslide mandate. AAP has won around 92 seats out of 117 seats.
It expects that Congress might form the government in Punjab and AAP would emerge as strong with a high vote share. But the voters of Punjab have given a clear mandate and chose AAP as the single largest party in Punjab. Bhagwant Mann will be the new CM of Punjab. He was chosen as the CM face with a mobile survey, and 93% of people chose Bhagwant Mann to be the CM of Punjab.
Many heavyweights of Punjab lost to AAP candidates and many first-timers became victorious with huge margins.
Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu lost from Amritsar East, Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi lost from both seats he was contesting, and Former CM of Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh also lost. Veteran Shiromani Akali Dal leader Prakash Singh Badal lost, his son Sukhbir Singh Badal lost, and Bikram Singh Majithia lost too.
AAP has made many lucrative promises to the people of Punjab and it will be interesting to see how these promises will be fulfilled and how much time it will take. Promises of free electricity, free education, and free mohalla clinics have been made but is it possible that the AAP-led govt in Punjab will stay true to these promises.
