Following Israel’s attack on Rafah, which resulted in the killing of several citizens of Gaza, people are sharing the phrase “All Eyes on Rafah.”

You may come across a striking picture of tents arranged to form the phrase “All Eyes on Rafah.” You might have seen your friends and connections sharing this phrase in their stories. They are expressing support for Rafah city in southern Gaza, where an Israeli airstrike on Sunday claimed 45 lives and injured over 200 civilians.

When did this Attack happen?

On May 26, an airstrike targeted a camp for displaced civilians in Rafah, Gaza, as per a Reuters report. The attack followed rocket launches by Hamas in the Tel Aviv region.

In response to the attack, the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) posted on X, stating, “Gaza has become hell on earth. Families continue to seek refuge, trying to escape war, but there is no such thing as a safe place in the Gaza Strip. No one is safe: not civilians, not aid workers—no one has been spared. We need a #CeasefireNow.”

The health ministry in the Hamas-run territory initially reported that the strikes “claimed the lives of 35 martyrs and left dozens injured, most of them children and women.” However, it was later confirmed that 45 civilians were killed in the attack.

In a statement, the Israeli military claimed the attack was based on “precise intelligence” targeting “legitimate targets under international law.” They added that the strike resulted in the deaths of two “senior” Hamas officials.

The Global Outrage

The recent attack in Rafah has sparked global outrage, prompting calls for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. Last year, Hamas carried out a deadly incursion into Israel via the Gaza border, resulting in numerous casualties. The group now holds political control in the region.

The assault on Rafah occurred just two days after a ruling by the UN International Court of Justice (ICJ), which ordered Israel to cease its attacks on the city.

ICJ President Judge Nawaf Salam emphasized the urgency, stating that Israel must immediately halt its military actions in Rafah to prevent further devastation. The order received strong support from 13 out of 15 judges.

Even Ritika Sajdeh, the wife of cricketer Rohit Sharma, posted it, though she later deleted it due to facing trolling.
