MS Dhoni pass on CSK captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja

As we are just one day away from the opening match of Cricket’s mega-event IPL 2022, the Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni handed over the leadership baton to India all-rounder player Ravindra Jadeja. The defending Champion CSK will face Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022 opening match on March 26, 2022.

According to reports, Dhoni announced the decision at a team meeting today after practice. But he was already thinking about it. Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan revealed that MS thought Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja) was ready to take the mantle and was at his best form to take the leadership role.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been the captain of Chennai Super Kings right through all the IPL seasons the franchise has participated. Under his leadership, CSK has registered a record 121 wins in 204 matches in the IPL.

Ravindra Jadeja has been with the CSK since 2012, will become the third cricketer to lead CSK. Suresh Raina once took over the mantle of leading the side against Yorkshire in the Champions League held in South Africa in October 2012.

Jadeja has been in fine form for CSK in the past couple of IPL seasons. He accumulated 232 and 227 runs in the 2020 and 2021 IPLs, alongside taking 19 wickets over those two seasons. One of his best performances in that period came against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium last year, when he cracked a game-turning 28-ball 62.
