The US Open: The United States Open Tennis Championship is an international tennis tournament. It is the biggest tennis tournament in the world. This tournament of tennis is held twice a year.
Starting around 1978 all the U.S. Open titles have been played on the acrylic hard courts of the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) National Tennis Center (renamed the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in 2006) in Flushing Meadows, Queens, N.Y. The U.S. Open tournament comprises titles in five primary classes: men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles.
The U.S. Open was a tournament created from one of the most established tennis titles on the planet: the U.S. Public Championship, which was laid out in 1881 as a national men’s singles and doubles competition. The competition was open just to clubs that were participants or members of the U.S. National Lawn Tennis Association (USLTA; now the USTA). The occasion extended to inculcate ladies’ singles for 1887, ladies’ doubles in 1889, and mixed pairs in 1892. The five titles were challenged at various districts until 1968 when every one of the five competitions was at last facilitated at a common site (the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, Queens, N.Y.), whereupon the titles became known as the U.S. Open. The competition moved to Flushing Meadows in 1978.
